I’m an avid reader, looking towards a long future in the exciting field of library science. I’m also a big fan of net privacy, so I’m not using my real name (especially since I’m the only person who will pop up on a Google search if you look for it), but Atar’Atah is a pretty close second, give or take a mythological reference and translation or two, so that’s, for all intents and purposes, me.
I’m starting this blog for a class assignment, but I think I’ve wanted to do something similar for a while. I read a lot anyway, and I like to talk about the things I’ve read, so – doing this in a more permanent fashion seems like a pretty good idea.
For each book, I’ll have a short summary, and a paragraph or two of my reactions. I’ll try to keep the spoilers under wraps, but that may not always be possible – I understand that other people get a bit nuts over them and I respect that, but sometimes you can’t talk about something without saying what it’s about.
Also, the books I’m reading for my class? They’ll have a booktalk hook. Ask your nearest and dearest public librarian if you’d like to know more about booktalks.
Finally, I’ll probably tie the book into something else – another book, a game, a movie, whatever. I like thinking about things like universal themes or cultural relatedness – and frankly, sometimes stuff just reminds you of other stuff. Even if it’s random, I think that’s part of why I read, to keep building on that giant patterned tapestry in my brain.
So, that’s pretty much it. The books I’m doing for my class will have a special tag, YA lit.
